Installation steps for STONEVO stone panels

(1) Verify & prep the substrate

Confirm the ZIP System® sheathing is installed per the manufacturer and functions as a 100% water-resistive barrier.

That means all seams are properly taped/rolled, transitions and corners are liquid-flashed or sealed, penetrations (fasteners, pipes, fixtures) are detailed watertight, and window/door interfaces are flashed per spec.

Repair any damage, re-tape or re-flash as needed, and ensure surfaces are flat, clean, dry, and dust-free before bonding lightweight real-stone veneer panels.

(2) Plan the layout

Establish level reference lines and dry-fit panels to plan seams and cuts.

Stagger joints for a natural flow; allow appropriate movement gaps at transitions and terminations.

(3) Cutting & tools

Use common jobsite tools for lightweight real-stone panels

  • Circular saw with an ultra-finish blade (e.g., DIABLO Ultra Finish Circular Blade); cut from the back when practical for the cleanest edge.
  • Track saw or angle grinder with suitable stone/diamond blade for rips and on-site shaping.
  • Jigsaw for small radius cuts and penetrations.
  • Router (with guide) for precise reveals, returns, and specialty details.
  • Metal shears for trims/profiles.
  • Electric screwdriver/driver for fastening trims, profiles, and accessories.

Ease or seal exposed edges as desired for the design. Always use PPE and dust control; make test cuts on off-cuts before committing to final pieces.

(4) Adhesive application (included in every set)

Trowel & pattern: Use a B3 notched trowel and comb STONEVO Professional Adhesive onto the ZIP System® substrate as directed on the label for adhesive stone veneer applications. For minor plane adjustments, you may add small supplemental spots (“back-buttering”) on the panel.

Seams & weather seal: Pull adhesive fully to and slightly beyond panel edges so joints are completely filled. Where seams meet, apply extra adhesive and flatten it flush to seal the joint and help prevent water getting behind the sheet.

Open time: Maximum 8 minutes to apply adhesive and set sheets. Work only in areas you can cover within that window; if exceeded, re-trowel fresh adhesive before placing panels.

Clean-up: If adhesive squeezes onto the face, clean immediately while wet using the included Special Protection.

Set & consolidate: Press panels firmly along layout lines and roll to achieve full contact. Protect from rain, dust, and impact until cured.

(5) Set the panels

Press panels firmly into place along your layout lines; roll with a clean rubber roller to achieve full contact.

Maintain consistent joints; check alignment frequently.

(6) Details & protection

Integrate with flashings and trims; keep weeps/drainage paths clear as required by code and wall design.

Protect the installation from rain, impact, and dust until the adhesive cures fully (per label) before cleaning or loading. Use the included Special Protection.

Always follow local codes, the ZIP System® installation guide, and the instructions on the STONEVO Adhesive label.
